Tutorial

Materials:
2x2x8 wood - 3 3ft pieces, 2 1ft pieces, 2 2,5ft pieces, 4 2 ft pieces, 1 3.2ft piece
1 ft long 5/16th thick metal threaded rod
1ft by 6-inch piece of thin smooth wood
2 5/16th lock nuts
4 5/16th nuts
4 lock washers
1 closed metal hook
1 opened metal hook
Nylon string
Cloth
Plastic bags

Steps:

1. Place the two 1ft pieces of 2x2x8 wood at the ends of the base of the trebuchet. Then place the three 3ft pieces evenly spaced from each other in between the two 1 ft pieces and attach them together with one screw on each end.

2. Drill a 5/16th-inch hole 1/2 inch from the top of each of the 2.5 ft pieces.

3. Place the two 2.5ft pieces vertically, with the drilled end on top, in the center of the two outside 3ft pieces and attach them from the bottom with one screw each.

4. Cut the four 2ft pieces at a 45-degree angle on each end and place them so that each sidearm has one on each side and attach them with one screw into the sidearm and one into the base 3ft piece for each sidearm support piece.

5. Drill a 5/16th-inch hole 6 inches from the top of the 3.2ft piece. Then drill a 1-inch hole 5/16th inch deep on each side of the piece. Place one bearing in each of these insets.

6. Attach the lever arm to the trebuchet by putting the threaded rod through the hold in the two sidearms as well as the lever arm. These are all held in place with one lock nut on each side of the lever arm as well as one nut and lock washer on each side of the two sidearms.

7. Place the closed metal hook into the bottom of the top end of the lever arm. Place the open metal hook into the top of the top end of the lever arm.

8. Cut the cloth into the shape of three racquetballs placed in a triangular formation. Put a hold in each of the three sides of the cloth. Run one piece of nylon string through each hole in the cloth. Attach two of the strings to the closed metal hook and the remaining string to the open hook.

9. Place one screw in each of the horizontal sides of the bottom end of the lever arm 1/2 inch from the end and 1/2 inch deep with 1/2 inch of screw hanging out on each end.

10. Fill plastic bags with sand with increasing weights of 1lb until 15lbs is reached. Place two holes in the top of the bag and put one piece of string through each hole. Wrap these strings around the two screws at the end of the lever arm for whichever counterweight of sand is needed.
